On November 5th 2017 I will be running in the New York City marathon with the Sandy Hook Promise, one mile for each victim in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012. SHP is a cause that touches my heart each and every day, as I was lucky enough to grow up in Sandy Hook, CT. Looking back I can't help but to smile at the memories of playing four-square at recess, growing caterpillars and setting them free as butterflies in the courtyard, and of course the jolly green giant footsteps leading to the front door. Sandy Hook Elementary was a sanctuary to me, and it breaks my heart to think that not all children who have passed through those doors share the same memories.
I believe that with your help, and the help of the Sandy Hook Promise we can raise awareness and prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future. No child, parent, teacher, or community should ever have to experience this, yet we see it time and again in the news. The Sandy Hook Promise is a nonprofit organization that is focused on preventing gun violence (and other forms of violence and victimization) BEFORE it happens by educating and mobilizing parents, schools and communities on mental health and wellness programs that identify, intervene and help at-risk individuals. Together we can make a difference!
Thank you in advance for even the smallest contributions!
