My name is Andrea Coppola Mendes and I am proud to be a part of the Samaritans Boston Marathon team. I will be running Boston 2016 in memory of my twin sister, Joann who lost her life to suicide. My family and I lost Joann on September 21, 2014. Although we will live through the pain of losing Joann everyday, we have decided to focus our energies on honoring her memory and celebrating her life.
Joann was spirited, hard-working and caring. She was a beautiful person with a huge heart. Joann loved life, wore big hats and was known for her bright red lipstick. She cherished time with her family and friends and enjoyed entertaining at home. Joann took the time to admire the beauty in simple things, like a flower....a sunset.....a farm. Her favorite flower was the sunflower; she often planted them and decorated her home with them. Joann also loved the ocean and collected shells and sea glass to adorn her home. She was the one who would show up to a gathering with flowers to create a centerpeice for all to enjoy. She had a love for animals, with a special place in her heart for dogs.
It is time to make Joann's life a legacy. Please help me on my journey. I'll do the training; but I need help to reach my goal of raising $10,000 for suicide awareness. Thank you!
