Russell's Battle Against ALS
Organized by: Stacy Cavanaugh
Russell passed away peacefully May 27th surrounded by his family and close friends. Ultimately losing his battle with ALS but gaining His victory in Jesus. He is now in heaven with Jesus. Praise the Lord!
Thank you for your faithful love, prayers, and support that you have shown this family and continue too!
Please continue to pray for his wife and kids.
God bless you!
Friends of the wonderful Wolfe family (affectionately called the ‘Wolfe Pack’) are uniting in a fundraising effort to assist the family in their costly battle against ALS (a terminal progressive neurodegenerative condition), also known as ‘Lou Gehrig’s Disease.’
ALS has already stolen enough...let’s stand and not allow ALS to further rob the ‘Wolfe Pack’. The Wolfe’s have already incurred over $390,000 in medical costs to date (detailed below) and this cost continues to climb every day.
Russell’s ALS Story:
It was mid-December 2013, Russell Wolfe (49) of Scottsdale, AZ, and family, including wife Alysoun and their two young children, were in the prime of their lives. They were preparing for the holidays and truly living out the American dream -- a beautiful home, owning a successful business, two thriving children and a loving marriage, all anchored in faith -- truly living out what anyone would title ‘living the dream.’
However, in the blink of an eye...in the few soft-spoken words of a physician’s diagnosis…everything changed. The dream turned into a nightmare.
On December 11, 2013, Russell was diagnosed with terminal ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). ALS is a progressive terminal neurodegenerative condition that takes away the ability for one’s muscles to work. Russell’s ALS first began to affect his fine motor movements, then his speech and now his ability to walk. In the midst of their family’s prime, Russell’s ALS progression has cost much more than just his neurodegenerative downturn visual to those around him. Russell (and wife Alysoun and kids) is slowly being stripped of virtually everything, eventually leading to his inability to walk, to talk, and to connect. It will ultimately cost him his hopes and dreams.
Russell’s brain, however, continues its ability to think and reason and remains as sharp as ever. Russell knows what he is up against. His continued positive outlook, he says, comes from deep faith.
What is not clearly seen are the personal financial costs that have burdened the Wolfe’s and all ALS families--costs that include the inability to earn income now and in years to come, and the costs of daily expenses such as skilled in-home therapy, nursing care, treatments, medicines, and medical supply costs.
As such, we are asking for help--no matter how small or how big...prayers included.
To date, the Wolfe Family has incurred medical expenses totaling $390,000+, and it’s growing daily. How you might ask (as we did)? Here are just a few of the expenses:
Grief counseling expenses
In Home Health Care
Durable medical equipment
Procedural Treatments (surgical and non-surgical)
Looking ahead Russell will need:
Home Renovations—Doorway ramps, bars/rails for stability, elevator put in due to no full bathroom or bedroom downstairs, etc.
Power Wheel Chair
Customized Van for Transportation
Speech Devices (computer)
Skilled full-time Nursing Care
Extended Experimental Procedures & Medications
On-Going Physical Therapy
On-Going Medical Supplies
Don’t let ALS take more from the Wolfe’s than it already has...help us make a stand.
How can I help?
