BENEFITING: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
EVENT DATE: May 04, 2014
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank distributes 27 million pounds of food annually through a network of over 400 soup kitchens, shelters and pantries. Over 6 million pounds of that food is fresh produce, roughly 23%. Over the next three years, the Food Bank aims to increase the distribution of fresh foods by 30%. I, along with many of my colleagues that conciously purchase and consume fresh, healthy foods are thrilled to be a part of this enormous challenge. Fresh foods are a game changer, the Food Bank must look at facility and organizational capacity, inventory turns, developing sustainable partners to support new distribution methods and harness community support to execute the vision. We all know that fresh foods are where it is at. As a country we are begining to become increasingly aware of what we eat, where it comes from and how it was prepared. I am proud to be working for an organization that is on the forefront of this dynamic paradigm shift. It is only appropriate that the Food Bank distribute the most nutritous, healthy food possible. You should be excited to! When communities have access to fresh, nutrious foods it means we have healthier, stronger neighbors! This year my goal is to raise enough monies to equal the purchase of two pallets of produce to do my own part to contribute to this exciting fresh food iniative while supporting the 110,00 individuals the Food Bank serves on a monthly basis. Please support me as I embark on my first ever HALF-MARATHON. For every $1 you donate to my cause, the Food Bank will be able to purchase $5 worth of food.
