On October 7, 2018, Chad Beres (Washington County Sheriff’s Dept) and Matthew Borchardt (Greenfield PD) will be running the 2018 Lakefront Marathon. The marathon starts in Grafton and finishes along the shores of Lake Michigan north of the Milwaukee Art Museum at Veterans Park. They will be running in full police duty gear (uniform, vest & duty belt) to raise awareness for law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty. They are also raising funds for the Wisconsin Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).
Inspired by her husband, Tina Beres, has decided to run the Brewers Half Marathon on September 22, 2018. Funds for Tina will be earmarked for C.O.P.S. Kids Camp. She will be running wearing a ballistic vest to bring awareness and support to the families of the Officers lost in the line of duty. The vest will represent the weight a family who loves an Officer carries every day. She finds inspiration in the many families she has met through WI C.O.P.S. events. Their strength, poise and determination is something she finds herself thinking about often.
Concerns of Police Survivors provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria. Furthermore, C.O.P.S. provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.
