BENEFITING: Narcolepsy Network, Inc.
Narcolepsy is a medical disorder that impacts 1 in approximately 2,000 people in the United States of America. The disease is a sleep disorder, involving irregular patterns in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep and significant disruptions of the normal sleep/wake cycle. While the cause of narcolepsy is not completely understood, current research points to a combination of genetic and environmental factors that influence the immune system. My name is Max Griffis, and I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy. For several years, I lived in fatigue and helplessness at the whim of narcolepsy. After being diagnosed, I tend to think of the ways that narcolepsy will hold me back in my life a lot more, but it also motivates me to work harder to achieve my goals. In January, I am running my first marathon in Riverside, California and I would love nothing more than to run for narcolepsy. Supporting the Narcolepsy Network is dear to my heart and I feel is necessary to effectively combat this disorder. Narcolepsy Network brings people with Narcolepsy together and fills a crucial role in a community of thousands. Narcolepsy Network supports research, advocacy efforts, public awareness & education.
