Runners for Relief
EVENT DATE: Nov 07, 2012
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Nov 30, 2012
We are runners who have come together to use our feet and our spirit to provide relief to those who were victims of the recent storms in the Northeast. Our effort began when we learned the NYC Marathon was being cancelled. So we cooked up a plan: on Marathon Sunday, we'd invite our friends to join us for a run to Staten Island, the site of the race start and an area hit hard by SuperStorm Sandy. More than 1,200 of us, most wearing orange marathon shirts, loaded up backpacks with supplies and took the Ferry over to Staten Island. We redirected our tapered and tightly-wound selves, divided into groups and ran in supplies and manpower to residents in need. We built a powerful community of thousands of supporters. More help is needed. Even if you're not in the area you can support this effort by donating to one of these established charities who are providing relief. Please donate now.
