Passionate about making a difference, our team runs to support all people in coffee.
This run is supporting the Java Jog at SCAA
Since 2013, this popular SCAA event has brought together hundreds of coffee aficionados, runners, walkers and friends to raise more than $75,000 in support of coffee women in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia through local organizations on the ground. Women are the backbone of the global coffee sector, playing critical roles related to coffee quality and wellbeing of the farm and family. However, their efforts go frequently unrecognized, undervalued and underpaid. The impact of both larger and smaller JavaJog grants has been tremendous - from support of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who directly supported the Tuungane Cooperative to help construct their first coffee washing station in 2014, to a grant to Girls Gotta Run in Ethiopia, which provided Athletic Sponsorships for girls and micro-business grants to each of their households - directly impacting nearly 150 family members in the Wolita coffee-growing regions of Ethiopia. JavaJog has also supported cervical cancer screenings and health education for women in Sidama, Ethiopia through Grounds for Health, and business training for women in the DRC through the Eastern Congo Initiative. This year, JavaJog funds will go to worthy initiatives to support women in coffee producing communities around the world who will be selected through an independent grant process as in prior years. The awareness of the JavaJog grants has grown, we anticipate receiving an even more diverse array of innovative project proposals to support women in coffee around the world.
