EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
October of 2011, I was training for my first 5K when my coworkers approached me and suggested that we train to run the 2012 marathon to raise awareness of domestic violence. I thought they were crazy! But it didn’t take much to convince me. After all, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and services are underfunded! And so we began our journey and became the Metrothoners. On the morning of October 7, 2012, we ran for the women in our lives-mothers, sisters, aunts, and daughters, our coworkers, and friends.
When I first started training, I thought I was not going to do it again but the experience was one of a kind, and extremely inspiring and humbling. So here I am. This year, I am running again in honor of victims of domestic violence and to raise funds for services because of the huge need, yet lack of funding. This has been an amazing journey and I am looking forward to running the marathon again this year!
