BENEFITING: WINIFRED MASTERSON BURKE MEDICAL RESEARCH
EVENT DATE: Mar 15, 2015
The Run 4 Brad team will be lacing up for the NYC Half Marathon on March 15th. It was founded in honor of Brad Berman, by his wife Jessica.
On August 4, 2013 at 7:31 AM Brad had a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a ruptured AVM in his brain. He had no idea he had an AVM or was at risk of having a stroke. His children were 5 and 2 at the time. When the brain bleed occurred he was filling his Fuel Belt water bottles for a long training run in preparation for the 2013 NYC Marathon. It would have been his fourth. Instead he spent the next four weeks in a coma and four months living in hospitals. When he awoke he had to re-learn how to walk, breathe, talk, walk, and eat. Watching him work his way back has been like watching a miracle. His determination is remarkable.
All money raised is being donated to the Burke Medical Research Institute -- to build the lower limb robotics clinic at Burke -- which Brad refers to as a "game changer" in terms of the impact on his gait restoration. You can learn more about the robotics clinic and why it is so important to Brad's recovery by watching this news story produced by CBS:
