Run2Heal TBI: Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor Lynn Crisci
Organized by: Lenore Tsikitas
EVENT DATE Apr 18, 2016
Dear friends, I am excited to introduce you to my good friend Lynn Crisci, a Boston Marathon bombing survivor named one of SELF magazine's "Most Inspirational Women to Ever Run the Boston Marathon." Meghan Bildner and I have formed 'Team Run2Heal TBI' to support her treatments to help reverse the lifelong repercussions she faces as a multiple trauma survivor impacted as we all were by the events of 4-15-13. Having narrowly survived the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, she bravely conquered the famous Copley finish in 2014 in the mobility impaired division. I am grateful and honored she has given me the opportunity to #runbold in her honor!!! Read her story:
In 2006, Lynn Crisci, an actress and pop rock super hero, suffered a stage accident. Bedridden for 3 years with severe head, neck and spinal cord injuries, she relearned to walk just a few months before the 4-15-13 Boston Marathon bombing took place, shattering the excruciating progress she'd made in moving from a wheelchair to using a cane to walking unassisted again. A finish line spectator, the explosions left Crisci with a frontal lobe brain injury, hearing loss, chronic lower back pain, post-traumatic stress disorder; and shuttling among 10 doctors for physical and cognitive therapies to manage lingering injuries. (Her sweet little Maltese service dog 'Lil Stinker,' who had accompanied her to the finish was left no longer able to assist with her chronic anxiety, a condition he now suffers himself)!
She didn't know if she had it in her, but after months of rehab and training (first with a group of survivors who ran together on Saturday mornings, and then all on her own at a slow and steady pace)— she was inspired to join the 'Mobility Impaired' division as the Massachusetts Ambassador for the US Pain Foundation, and ran, walk and crawled her way to the finish in 2014! Since completing the 2014 Boston Marathon (after never having previously before run a day in her life) she has never stopped advocating for the people living with chronic pain on behalf of the Foundation, and trauma survivors as a Board Member of the Massachusetts Resiliency Center.
To honor her own incredible resiliancy, Meghan and Lenore have committed to fundraising $6000 to contribute to the ongoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and Transmagnetic Cranial Stimulation (TMS) she needs to continue healing, as she maintains a grueling treatment and travel schedule that will keep her from personally training for this year's race, which we will finish for her as a unified fundraising and training team!
We are thrilled to have your support in spreading her mission of ‘Strength Through Unity.’ The road to Boston 2016 will be tough, but we are determined to meet each challenge of the course which will pale in comparison to the obstacles that Lynn has faced and will continue to manage for a lifetime as a survivor. Lynn says running the marathon "was about giving people hope and telling myself that I am capable and stronger than I realize. I fought my way out of that wheelchair, and I fought my way across that finish line. If I can do it, so can you. Never give up HOPE!” Please donate today and help us Run2HealTBI in 2016!!!
This is a direct to organizer fundraiser.
