Training - week 8
November 04, 2016
This year, 48,000 people will be diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, in Janury our family was forced to face this nasty disease head on, when my stepdad, Eddie, was diagnosed. 80% of those with Pancreatic Cancer will die within the first 12 months – lucky for us, he's still with us and feeling great. Similar to others, I am left with a myriad of emotions – sadness, anger, and a renewed appreciation for my own health and the blessings I get each and every day.
I want to use this horrible disease to do something good, by raising awareness for the cause and money to fund research. I continue to get inspired to fight this disease when I watch my stepdad endure challenging chemo sessions every other week, and still manage to have a smile on his face. Running a marathon is not merely a physical feat, it’s a mental one. As I face those 26.2 miles, I’m privileged to know that I am helping a cause that will help other families that are fighting this battle.
Project Purple is a great organization that focuses on three things – funding research, providing financial aid to patients, and offering college scholarships to those who have been touched by the disease. Since 2010 they have raised and donated over $2M – your support can help make that number even higher. Every donation means a lot to me personally, Eddie, and everyone that is touched by this disease.
