I am dancing for The Pink Fund because… they are doing a wonderful thing by helping breast cancer patients who are struggling financially due to breast cancer costs. I am also dancing for The Pink Fund because I discovered a passion for ballroom dance after my run with cancer. It was the first thing I did “for me” and I fell in love with the sport. It has healed me, recreated me, and revived me - mind, body and soul… I feel breast cancer patients everywhere could benefit from ballroom dancing! This is an event where 2 of my passions collide and I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
I was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer on January 12, 2010
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from having breast cancer is… that NOW is the time to live life and not to ignore my own needs/desires. Try new things, be more grateful for the blessings you already have, do what you love, find new hobbies, make new memories… don’t let fear keep you down! I spent so much time taking care of everyone else I never did anything for me. I know now that taking care of me makes me a better me - better mom, better wife, better friend...
Breast cancer awakened me to… the need to do things I love, and to enjoy every moment of every day instead of waiting for the day when everything is “perfect”. That being able to take care of all the things in life is a blessing - it is so much more rewarding to hit the bed each night exhausted from a full day than just exhaustion from treatments and inactivity. Its tough during those times of fatigue during treatments, and it made me realize how good it feels to be tired because I was living life when I was well. I don’t complain as much about the busy-ness in my life anymore. I love it.
Your donation will help me reach my $3,000 fundraising goal. Why $3,000? That amount will help The Pink Fund provide #RealHelpNow to one qualified applicant in active treatment to cover her non-medical, basic cost of living expenses for three months.
