Imagine living in a beautiful area of the country and never having the means to go on a hike. In Taos, New Mexico this is a reality for many public school children.
Rivers & Birds is a non-profit organization that has taken nearly 5,000 public school students on multi-day nature-immersion programs that inspire Earth stewardship.
Approximately 250 Taos fourth grade public elementary school students will explore the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River Area in Rio Grande del Norte National Monument for a one-day hike into the gorge at Wild Rivers. These fourth grade students will also journey by raft down the Rio Grande at Orilla Verde Recreation Area in Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, guided by Los Rios River Runners and Rivers & Birds.
During these two adventures, the students will engage in hands-on learning in nature, "Leave No Trace" ethics, and will learn about river health and public land stewardship.
This gift will help cover supplies, rafting, bus transportation, and formal instruction.
Rivers & Birds and Los Rios River Runners are award-winning organizations with over 55 years of combined experience in taking citizens on adventures in nature.
