BENEFITING: Brady Center To Prevent Gun Violence
On June 11, 2016, we each decided to go to a nightclub - a fact we only remember because it was Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL.
After midnight that night, a man with an automatic weapon opened fire and killed 49 people, injuring dozens of others.
Surviving this incident has turned us into advocates, in the hopes that nothing like this ever happens again. For the past year, we have both been busy learning more about gun violence laws, lobbying elected officials in DC and Florida, and speaking at events.
Brady has been a partner, arming us with the facts we need to fight gun violence. Through Brady, we have met with some of the top voices in gun violence prevention, and spoken repeatedly with elected officials about this important topic. But we need your help to continue these efforts and train even more advocates. We are raising money to help Brady arm others with facts and disarm hate, so that tragedies like the one in Orlando don’t happen again. We hope you will join us, either with a donation on our page or by starting a fundraiser of your own!
During the Pulse shooting, Angel was shot multiple times in the leg. After a stay in the hospital, he became inspired by the medical staff and is now in school for nursing. Luis was not injured in the shooting but stayed at the nightclub until 9 AM the next day helping those who were injured and assisting first responders. Though he was not shot, he was traumatized because of losing his ex-boyfriend and from helping with the injuries. Luis is in school to become a teacher.
