I am raising money to fund my dog Dutch's cancer treatment, which may not be possible without the help of the Perseus Foundation. Because Dutch's treatment will cost in excess of $400 weekly, I desperately need to raise money, and quick. So far, Dutch has had only 2 treatments, which were really hard for me to pay for, but I would do anything to save my dog. I am a single unemployed mother, and a pre-law student, who has very limited income. Please help Dutch, as he has already had a really rough start in life. I'll tell you a little bit about my Dutchie. He was seized from his previous owner @ just 2 days old along with 14 other puppies and 3 adult dogs. Apparently his owners were illegally breeding dogs, and not feeding them. Because I was one of the volunteers on standby when he arrived @ the Yonkers Animal Shelter, I witnessed first hand the horror, and his medical condition. He was covered in feces, had crust in his eyes, had ear mites, and his umbilical cord was still attached. Myself, as well as another shelter staff member began cleaning all of the puppies, then attended to the adult dogs. Because all of the adult dog were emaciated, and because Dutch's mother had been tranquilized during the seizure, it was hard for her to feed her puppies. I was actually asked to take one of the puppies home to bottle feed, because he had somehow sustanined an injury either during the seizure, or accidentally because his mother was handling them after a double dose of tranquilizer. After feeding the dog for nearly two weeks, I noticed he was not thriving. I rushed him to the vet, and it was determined that one of the shelter staff workers had accidentally made the hole in the bottle nipple too big, and he had aspirated some milk into his lungs. Due to the cost of care, the animal shelter advised that I could not leave the puppy @ the hospital I had taken him to, and advised that I needed to take him to their contracted vet. I did so, and he died later that day. Devestated, I vowed not to take home any more dogs, but about two weeks later one of the shelter workers convinved me to hold one of the remaining puppies. I fell in love with them, and the one boy that was left kept favoring me. After a few weeks passed, I asked the manager if I could take home another puppy. Because the cruelty case was still pending, I had to agree that if Dutch needed to be produced to the court, I would redily do so. I agreed, and on 10/13/2005 I brought Dutch home, he has been wreaking havoc on my life ever since. Not only is Dutch my four year old daughter's best friend, he is my older dog Red's best friend as well. Please help us keep our beautiful dog around for the many more years I know he deserves. God Bless you for any and everything you can contribute. Every penny will be appreciated.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
