BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
As a kid, it seemed like “making a difference” was easy. I recall pacing the lanes of the bowling alley where my mom bowled on Monday nights, asking for pledges for Jump Rope for Heart to raise money for the American Heart Association, and carrying a fish food jar converted into a donation canister aiming to collect enough nickels to help the American Cancer Society find a cure.
As I got older, my philanthropic beginnings felt stifled by too many causes, too many charities, and too many bills to pay.
Last month, when my sister (a former marathoner) and I heard the news of a tragedy at the finish line of the Boston Marathon – I was moved by the stories of the runners who went directly to the hospital to give blood. How quickly the Red Cross responded.
For more than 130 years, the Red Cross has made it its mission to help alleviate human suffering. It’s time I do my part. I’m running the 2013 Chicago Marathon with Team Red Cross. You can support me, and the mission of the Red Cross, by making a donation.
It’s never too late to make a difference.
