Our History and Vision
Raphael Academy began in the spring of 2012 as an after school program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. By the fall of 2012, the school opened with five students, ages twelve to twenty. Due to the large span of ages in the first class, The Guild was founded a year later for adults ages eighteen and older.
While services for special needs children have improved dramatically over the past 15 years, programs for differently-abled adults transitioning from public and private school settings have not. This is the inspiration that led to the founding of Raphael Village, a place where adults can receive continued academics, vocational and arts training, and work on the land in our urban garden. Our Town Center project is scheduled to finish construction in spring 2021.
Who We Are
Raphael Academy educates PK-12 students who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, and other intellectual disabilites. The Guild is a Camphill inspired day program for adults ages 18 years of age and older who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, and other intellectual disabilites.
Raphael Village is an Affiliate member of the Camphill Association of North America. Camphill is an international movement of intentional communities designed to meet the needs of children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities through a combination of community life, the arts and work on the land. Currently, we offer a school and adult day program and are in the early planning phase of our life-sharing residential community.
