Racing for Rob
Organized by: Jaimee Shearn
EVENT DATE Oct 19, 2014
THE STORY:
What: St Louis Rock n' Roll Marathon
When: October 19, 2014
How do I even start to describe to you my Uncle Rob?
There are only two things about him that could possibly frustrate somebody:
1. He's in a good mood and you're not. ("How is he so positive, ALL the time!?")
2. He believes a job can be completed and you doubt it. ("Don't worry about it, we'll figure it out!")
Point being, Rob is the kind of guy that we all try to be. He is slow to anger, compassionate, gracious and thoughtful. He is goal oriented, and would do whatever it took to get a job done. He is the kind of guy that welcomes you with a hug, whether you want one or not, every time he sees you. Even if you saw him the day before, he is so excited to see you again that he'll treat you like it's been years.
I can't explain or reason why someone so amazing would have to go through something so horrible such as brain cancer. I can't make it go away or feel the pain and sickness for him. Trust me, I would if I could.
What I can do, with the help of my friends and family, is support my Uncle Rob, Aunt Jen, and cousins Matthew and Jonathon. Both through prayers and thoughts, as well as financially.
This fall I have decided to run the St Louis Rock N' Roll Marathon in honor of my uncle, Rob Swanson. Although a race may seem disconnected from a disease like brain cancer, it provides a unique opportunity for me to support my uncle. Though the physical and emotional pain of disease far supersedes that of training for a marathon and running the race, I will be proud to wear his name in victory on October 19 as I cross the finish line and with your help that finish will be accompanied by financial support for him and his family.
Most of all, I am asking for your support and prayers for my Uncle Rob and his family. But I am also asking you to partner with me and consider making a financial donation of any amount towards this cause. However the money is used, it will surely lift a burden from their shoulders and it is the least I can do to help.
