EVENT DATE: Jun 18, 2017
We have chosen charities that are personally meaningful to us:
The needs of people struggling with poverty, homelessness, and addiction are complex, but Cityteam San Jose is passionate about helping individuals and families in our community. Their programs offer a variety of resources to meet needs, to provide hope, and to help individuals and families improve their lives mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Max, our celebrant and a friend of Rachel and Andrew, is the chairman of CityTeam.
Rachel has traveled to Bolivia and Ethiopia for medical missions that were both personally rewarding and impactful. Enter The Addis Clinic, which connects volunteer general medicine and specialty care providers in the United States with partner clinics and organizations. Medical staff on the ground use The Addis Clinic app to send information about patients to U.S. based physicians, including vital signs, symptoms, x-rays, and other images. Physicians can then recommend follow up tests, medications, or referral to hospitals as needed.
Health care in the United States is unfortunately very uncertain for many people. Among other services, the Samaritan House supports two highly respected free clinics that provide primary and specialty medical, dental and vision care to low income and uninsured individuals. Rachel regularly donates time to Samaritan House's free clinic in Redwood City.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Both Andrew and Rachel's mothers are survivors of breast cancer. 91 cents of every dollar spent by The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness. Currently, the Foundation is supporting more than 195 dedicated researchers at major medical institutions across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and China.
