BENEFITING: YOUNG WOMENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF QUEENS
As a multi-tiered 501(c)(3) social service nonprofit, YWCA of Queens has grown to become the provider of choice for many immigrant and low-income families members regardless of race, religion, nationality or socio-economic status. The organization's members typically come from the diverse neighborhoods of Queens with many individuals of Korean, Chinese, Hispanic, Indian, or African descent. Founded in 1978, the YWCA of Queens is a membership organization and is an affiliate of the World YWCA and the YWCA USA, sharing the bold vision of empowering women and eliminating racism and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all through education and advocacy. Our holistic programs serve immigrant women and families to become financially empowered.
Your support—whether it is a $10 donation or $1,000—is tremendous in increasing YWCA of Queens’ capacity to touch more lives of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking survivors. We work with various DV agencies in NYC to provide financial empowerment services to their clients. Our DV partners may provide shelters and counseling, and we provide educational and financial empowerment tools to get these women back on their fee. We work with DV survivors through these programs:
- ESL Classes
- GED/ABE Classes
- Supplemental training such as job development workshops, computer literacy workshops, financial literacy workshops
- Home Health Aide training, certification, and employment placement
- Social Services including Medicaid/Medicare and Affordable Housing
