OUR STORY

Protect the Children's Future(PCF) is a Maryland based non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children in rural areas of Haiti. It was founded in 2011 by a Haitian expatriate who was moved by the plight of the children he encountered on frequent trips back to his native country. Children in rural Haiti lack access to education, health care and basic public services. PCF works to make the lives of children healthier and happier and strives to help them secure a brighter future.

Working in Corail Lherisson, Miragoane, and Petite Riviere de Nippes, PCF has been providing full scholarships on a yearly basis to needy children of all ages enabling them to attend primary and secondary school. Over 200 children are enrolled in its soccer program. In July 2014, PCF’s assistance was sought to implement its soccer program in the town of Anse-d’Hainault for about 150 youths. Heedful to the well-being of its target population, PCF’s also distributes shoes to those in needy families who walk barefoot to protect them against dangerous parasites; and provides simple toys as seasonal holiday presents to needy children, most of whom have never owned a toy before.

This summer, PCF is planning to carry out a Soccer Camp for the youth of Miragoane, Petite Riviere de Nippes and neighboring localities and we need your help! Please find below the details of our project.

SUMMER SOCCER CAMP 2015

We all know that physical activity improves physical and emotional health. In distressed communities where stress and anxiety run high, exercise and team sports can have a large impact. Sports like soccer improve fitness and mental sharpness; contribute to psychological and social development; teach children to work together, to accept and value one another, and to develop skills and self-esteem. The PCF soccer program has been a tremendous success, measured by the constant growth in enrollment applications. The goal is to increase participation and skill sets. PCF’s soccer program provides disadvantaged youths in the three localities it serves with the opportunity to develop their character as well as their soccer skills in a structured environment. In order to qualify to participate in the program, the kids must be enrolled in school with passing grades. There is a huge demand for these programs; unfortunately, there are not enough resources (coaching, field space, equipment, etc.) to allow everyone to join.

In July 2015, PCF will be sponsoring a week-long free soccer camp for underprivileged youths from the towns of Miragoane, Petite Riviere de Nippes and neighboring localities enrolled in its soccer program. The camp will be held in Petite Riviere de Nippes and will focus on developing/enhancing players’ soccer skills through various drills and games. One hundred fifty youths ranging from 8 - 17 years old will receive training from PCF coaches (both from the U.S. and Haiti). The campers will be served a healthy meal each day. Soccer training will also be provided to new local volunteer coaches.

On the last day of the camp, prizes and medals will be awarded to the campers. Your support to this initiative will provide these youths with a platform to: (a) promote communication amongst them; (b) decrease the likelihood for their participation in criminal and/or harmful activities; (c) build strong social bonds with their peers which, in the long term, may result in creating better communities; and (d) provide them with an opportunity to be involved in a healthy and fun activity. Since all the expenses we make to carry out the activities and the equipment we provide come directly from donations, this is where we need your help!

IMPACT:

Increase youth participation in sports.
Provide guidance and training to local coaches to enable them to run structured practice sessions throughout the year.
Provide supplemental training materials for the local coaches.
Provide soccer equipment for players.

PCF is an all-volunteer organization. Every dollar of your support goes to program expenses.

Your donations will help the children and youth of Rural Haiti in the following manners:

√ a $45 donation would provide a child the opportunity to participate in the soccer camp

√ a $100 donation would provide 5 children a daily nutritious meal for 5 days

√ a $400 donation would provide two coaches the opportunity to collaborate and learn while participating in the soccer camp.

√ a $1300 donation would provide 30 children the opportunity to participate in the soccer camp.
