Project Self-Sufficiency serves low income single parents in college in Orange County, California.  We believe that education can be a path out of poverty, especially for single mothers.  Postsecondary education is associated with higher incomes, better health, and improved educational outcomes among children.  It is a research-backed path out of poverty for low-income families.  We help single-parent college students by providing customized, wraparound services throughout their educational journey and transition into a career.

Our clients are struggling during the COVID-19 shutdown.  Many have been laid off or have had their hours cut.  Some are essential workers facing additional childcare costs since schools are closed.  Many are struggling to pay rent and put food on the table.  We offer a financial assistance program for our single-parent families, but we are currently experiencing unprecedented demand for the program and need your support.  Here is the type of emergency aid we provide to our scholars:

- Emergency rental assistance for single parents whose work hours have been cut or they are laid off

- Childcare assistance to cover unexpected costs for parents who continue to work (nurses, grocery store workers, etc) but their kids’ schools are closed

- Basic Needs Assistance for groceries for food, cleaning supplies, etc.

- Other unexpected bills like medical expenses

Watch our short, powerful video below featuring two of our scholars.  Thank you for your help in spreading the word about the needs of student-parents, especially single-parent college students.  Visit our website www.pssoc.org to learn more or sign up to become a monthly donor to help a family throughout the year.
