BENEFITING: PROJECT PURPLE
ORGANIZER: PROJECT PURPLE
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
This year I will be running the NYC Marathon in loving remembrance of my Nana, Marge Feind. In the spring of my senior year of high school, my Nana was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, the 4th deadliest cancer diagnosis & one of the least funded of the top ten cancers in the country.
What started as a rash, quickly spiraled into an extremely serious & grim prognosis as her doctors gave her less than a year to live. She passed away less than six months after her initial diagnosis. As the mother of five daughters & eleven grandchildren, she was the most caring, loving, and selfless person I knew.
On November 6th, 2016, I will run the NYC Marathon on the Project Purple team on behalf of my Nana & all those affected by this devastating disease.
As the cancer with the highest mortality rate of all major cancers, patients are taken way too quickly. 94% of patients die within five years of diagnosis & 74% within the first year. This year I hope to raise both awareness and funds so that future patients have a greater chance of survival and more time with their loved ones.
While our Nana was taken too quickly from my family, I know that she will be with me every step of the way, supporting me on my path to the finish line.
Thank you for your support!
