Project Illuminate is a charitable organization whose mission is to raise funds for refugees as well as raise hope and love and unity for communities that seek to contribute filling the needs of refugees both locally and abroad. Lights of Love- We are offering a set of Christmas luminaries as well as a pamphlet about how you can help refugees in your community.  This is provided for a suggested donation of $10. (These are distributed door to door.  They cannot be purchased here.  If you would like some for you neighborhood contact us and we will send them to you.) Each light lit Christmas Eve night is lit as a symbol of the love and compassion we share for people everywhere, particularly refugees this year. All proceeds will go towards helping refugees in our community and abroad. We have researched and found organizations that use their funds wisely and provide great relief and service to refugees. We will split all funds earned equally between meeting the needs of local refugees and international projects.  A small portion of funds will be used to further our project of raising awareness of how to help and providing Lights of Love to more people.  Our Goals Raise $10,000 for refugees Raise awareness of how individuals can reach out to refugees living locally. Create a visual symbol of love and hope that unifies communities. Turn people's hearts and thoughts towards love and peace and hope this Christmas Eve night. Like many of you, I have been overwhelmed by the tragedy and violence and despair of the millions of refugees around the globe this year. I want to help. And I want to feel hope myself, as I find that hope is trying to slip away from my grasp. Why Lights for Love?  Last year was our first Christmas in this neighborhood and we quickly found out about a beautiful tradition here. At Christmas time each home buys a set of luminary lights to be lit on Christmas Eve. The evening of Christmas Eve was magical. After celebrating inside with family we went outside and lit our candles and set them on the curb. Other neighbors were out doing the same and soon the entire street and then the entire neighborhood was lined with these beautiful and simple lights. It brought a feeling of hope, of unity, of love, and of awareness of life outside our own home. As we walked the streets to take in the splendor it brought a feeling of community and reminded us of the light of the Savior, whose birth we were celebrating.Christian or not, all of us were enriched by the beauty of the moment. I found this experience to be moving and also learned it is quite lucrative. A local boy scout troop has done it as a fundraiser for the last 18 years and earned a good amount of money to fund their camp the next summer. We are mimicing their fundraiser and using the opportunity to spread awareness of refugees and to raise money to help refugees. It is a way to not only help a worthy cause, but also to create a beautiful and memorable Christmas moment. A moment of love and giving, and after all, isn't that what Christmas is all about? How you can help  I pray you will help us to further this project of spreading hope and love for refugees and communities everywhere by either donating here and/or requesting to distribute them in your own neighborhood.  We will provide as many luminaries as we are are able.  Our goal this year is 10,000 lights, which is 1,000 homes and enough love to fill our hearts, and the hearts of thousands in need this Christmas.  #lightoflove #projectillumination #peacelovehopeunity
