The most powerful thing you can do for a young person is give them the space to aspire and dream. Project Exploration offers a setting forchildren to explore, test and try alongside caring adults who value the importance of them to the phenomena of science, technology and engineering. We give kids the opportunity to do science, not just read about it. After all, what better way is there to begin to believe that you can be a rocket scientist than to build a rocket!

Who is Project Exploration?

Project Exploration (PE) is a nationally recognized science education and youth development organization that strives to ensure every Chicago student becomes STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) literate, promotes a diversified STEM workforce in Chicago and works to mitigate the poverty that pervades Chicago’s STEM deserts. Since 1999, Project Exploration has provided a variety of after school programs devoted to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) literacy and career development for underrepresented youth in grades 6-12.

Project Exploration uses STEM education to address challenges to equity, access, and opportunity in public and higher education and the professional STEM world. Project Exploration makes STEM education accessible through:

- After school programs programs that empower and mentor underrepresented minority youth.

- Community-building connections for schools, students and families through leadership in the Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative (STEM Co-op).

$50: Supports an interactive, hands-one activity for a student

$75: Supports a STEM professional visit so they can continue to teach and inspire

$100: Supports materials and supplies for a program

$150: Supports a STEM Facilitator to teach for one program session

$500: Supports a day-long, interactive field trip to teach our students about future careers in science and technology

$1000: Supports a leadership retreat to give students experience in leadership and important professional skills

$2500: Supports an entire year of field trips for a program
