EVENT DATE: May 21, 2013
We are Sarah Zuckerman, Liz Oliphant, and Catie Ross and we're seniors at Woodside Priory School in Portola Valley. At Priory, seniors take a class called Senior Project. The idea is to use design thinking to come up with an NPO – a Need, Problem, or underexplored Opportunity. Our group decided to focus on hunger in the Bay Area. Early on we decided that “hunger” was too broad and that we wanted to localize our project and focus on what we could change at Priory to involve the school more with Second Harvest Food Bank. Every year Priory has a Holiday Food Drive and for the past few years Priory has won the Golden Apple Award, which means that our school had the highest per capita donation. Despite that, our surveys of the student body indicated that students would be more inclined to participate and feel more connected to Second Harvest if the donations were more interactive
On Tuesday, May 21st at 4 pm, following another Senior Project presentation on campus, our group will be hosting a bake-off for our Senior Project! Please come join us and others for some tasty treats! We are looking for people to come taste and judge for a small entrance fee and/or bake their favorite dessert for this event. However if you can't attend and would like to contribute to Second Harvest, or would just like to contribute in addition to attending the Bake-Off, any donation is appreciated.
For those of you who are curious or still unsure, our goal is to turn The Priory Bake-Off into The First Annual Priory Bake-Off. Our Senior Project focuses on raising awareness of the issue of hunger in the Bay Area and more specifically, on what Priory can do to help. Hunger is a year-round issue and we realized that only donating once a year is not enough to help.
