The Power Company Kids Club promotes the emotional, physical, spiritual, and social well-being of at risk and adolescents in Detroit and Pontiac through mentoring, weekly programs, and partnerships with parents, churches, schools, civic leaders, and community organizations.
The Power Company Kids Club was started in 1993 with an old school bus and 23 children in attendance. Today, the Power Company Kids Club has expanded to a fleet of`12 buses bringing hundreds of children to its multi-faceted programs, free of charge. Each week the Power Company Kids Club team leaders visit the children at their homes in order to build strong and enduring relationships. On Saturday, hundreds of school children (K-6th grade) are brought to the Power Company Kids Club where they enjoy an action-packed atmosphere filled with fun, games, and focused, directional teaching. The lessons focus on topics such as staying in school, saying no to drugs and alcohol, ending racism and violence, and promoting good citizenship. Each child is provided with a meal each week. In addition to the Saturday Sessions and home visits, the Power Company Kids Club offers summer programs in parks, a middle, high-school and college leadership training program, college scholarship funding, and Christmas gifts for hundreds of children.
