The purpose of our event is to raise awareness about Domestic Violence and Financial Abuse, which affects the most compromised and vulnerable in our community. Given the uncertain economic climate, and the pandemic of violence among youth, it is imperative that we do all we can to address this issue head on.
We are raising funds to empower and educate women and girls to make positive life changing choices through our Youth Peer Advocacy and Leadership program.
We also believe that Men and boys can help us prevent and end abuse! It is important to bring Men into the conversation to educate and engage them to become Allies! We INVITE MEN, AND DO NOT INDICT THEM!
We are excited to share our work with teens and young adults, and all allies of all genders, ethniticies and sexual orientations to address violence, abuse and trauma that has affected them, and impacted our community.
According to the LAPD, Teen Dating Violence has increased 28% in Los Angeles in the last two years. Did you know youth of Color, and those from economically challenged communities are the hardest impacted? Did you know almost every woman and girl you know can share an experience of teen dating/inter-personal or domestic violence or sexual assault? Did you know most people stay in violent or abusive relationships because they of financial abuse? Did you know October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month?
We know that violence happens everywhere, all the time. By working with youth and young adults, we give them skills, tools and language to help their peers understand, prevent and ultimately end all forms of violence. We also help them to build their own self-esteem, to grown strong in the knowledge that they are amazing, resilient and are worthy of every good and wonderful thing! We hlep them to understand that the violence they experienced, does not define them, nor are they responsible for the actions of others, thus helping them grow into healthy, positive and violent free people!
WE CAN NO LONGER WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE IS ABUSED! WE MUST FOCUS ON AWARENESS TO PREVENT ABUSE FROM EVER BEGINNING IN THE FIRST PLACE!
There are many ways you can support our efforts to save and change lives.
