Step-by-step, donor-by-donor, we are getting one step closer to opening our doors to an awesome adventure! My family and I have decided to try a new and fun way of helping us raise seed money to open our Early Childhood Center and Elementary school in Queretaro, Mexico, in August, 2014.
What? Raise $5,000 in just under two weeks to go towards seed money for establishing a school in Queretaro, Mexico through the organization Queretaro Institute for the Empowerment of Children.
Why? My husband, being from Mexico, has always wanted to return home and do something for his community. My passion, being a teacher, has always been with working with children, whoever they may be.
The Facts (from Mexicanos Primero and The Center for Public Education)
- Of the 98 out of every 100 Mexican schoolchildren who enter first grade on time, only 62 will finish middle school in a timely manner.
- Of these 62 who finish, only 46 will continue on to high school.
- Only 1 in 4 15-year-olds have obtained an education that allows them to continue learning.
- Studies show that students who attend preschool reap many short and long-term benefits. They are more likely to read and do math on grade level and graduate high school, just to name a few.
How? On March 16, 2013, my husband, two children, and I will race in the St. Patrick's Day 5-mile run in St. Louis. Well, my husband and 11-year-old will be racing. I, on the other hand, will probably be bribing my youngest with a chocolate sundae to keep him moving instead of sitting on the curb half way through and telling me to come back for him when I am finished (as he did during last year's race).
What are we asking from you? There are many ways to do the math, but if I could get just 100 people to commit to convincing just 5 friends to sponsor us for just $10, we can reach our goal! Just think, that is less than what it costs for the chocolate sundaes for the family after the race! And between the 4 runners, that would be just 50 cents a mile!
All of your tax-deductible donations will be received through our wonderful sponsoring organization, Visions Made Viable. They believe in our mission, and have taken us under their wing.
