The Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco was one of four communities in the nation to be selected by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation to participate in a $5,000 Grant Match Challenge. Donations made and directed entirely to PJ Library will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000.
We subscribe to the philosophy of tikkun olam which means we have a responsibility to help repair the world. Part of our purpose is to strengthen family life and provide future generations an identification with strong Jewish values, culture and heritage.
PJ LIBRARY is a Jewish family engagement program implemented on a local level throughout North America. PJ Library mails high-quality and age specific Jewish children's literature and music to Jewish children on a monthly basis at no cost to their families. While the materials are sent at no charge to each family, The Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco provides half of the subscription cost (currently $42 paid per child), a contribution toward a required staff person and all local programming expenses.
Since its start in 2006, the PJ Library program has set out to join together the building of cultural heritage with the building blocks of literacy. Bedtime is a special time for families, and by providing reading material that emphasizes the communal stories and shared traditions, the program has helped hundreds of families in our area embrace and create their own family traditions while focusing on early-childhood literacy. Families are able to explore the timeless core values of Judaism through books and music. All families raising Jewish children from age six months of age through eight years are encouraged to sign up for PJ Library.
