BENEFITING: Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Inc.
For about 18 months now, I have been very proud to be a volunteer for Harlem Educational Activities Fund, a charitable organisation which creates life-changing educational opportunities for exceptionally bright, but under-served, young people. Just last week I had the very great honour of working with some of these outstanding middle-school students, and it got me to thinking, "isn't 11 an amazing age to be"...?! It is absolutely a point in the lives of young students when they are SO receptive to new knowledge and opinions; and I would argue that nowhere in the world is the intelligence and receptivity of young people more evident than it is at HEAF. Truly.
So this ties in very well indeed with HEAF's current fundraising initiative, handily titled '11 x 11'...!
What is Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) and What is 11 x 11 Campaign?
For over 27 years, the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) has served NYC by providing students the opportunity to enhance their academics with the goal of graduating from college. HEAF changes the lives of under-served young people beginning in middle school and continuing through college with a youth development approach that includes rigorous year-round academic enrichment, social and cultural exposure, and constant individual attention. HEAF is launching our first online campaign fundraiser 11 x 11! Our goal is to raise $11,000 in 11 days from March 21 - March 31. The 11 x 11 giving campaign is about the power of the masses. We might not have a lot to give, but if we all do a little, we can dramatically make a difference. We graciously ask to give what you can, whether it's $11, or more. And we hope you will ask 11 of your friends to do the same. It's give $11 and ask 11. It's that simple. And with your help we can take this small, grassroots campaign and turn it into something really big! We are power in numbers and we are the power to help HEAF maintain its 11 year commitment to our students and families.
I realise that the fundraiser technically begins on March 21st, however I am going to be on the road over the next few weeks so I (cheekily!) wanted to get started a bit early...! Please feel free to donate as soon (and as much!) as you like!
(Also for you lovely people I'm sending this to in the UK, $11 is less than 9 quid) :-D
Thank you so much!
