Are you IN?
Driven by our core belief that every young person has an important voice that is worth hearing, our programs support the advancement of critical academic and literacy skills, cultivate critical workforce development skills, and maximize students’ capacity to engage in and direct their own learning through creative writing, collaborative revision, and exposure to professional theater.
This summer, Young Playwrights is launching a fundraising campaign to support the process of reading and responding to 720 play submissions received from the students in our classrooms. Each play will be read and each student will receive a thoughtful, personalized one-page response to their work. The feedback is extensive and intentional, including suggestions for revision and prompts that encourage students to continue to developing their play. For students, the feedback affirms both their ideas and their effort and shows them that they can be taken seriously as artists and as individuals with unique and important perspectives.
We want to raise $7,200 to fund this work, in recognition of the efforts of the community that makes it happen: the students (and their teachers) and the readers who commit themselves to an exchange of ideas year after year.
