BENEFITING: Parkinson Foundation of Western Pennsylvania
ORGANIZER: Parkinson Foundation of Western Pennsylvania
EVENT: 2018 Pittsburgh Marathon
EVENT DATE: May 06, 2018
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
I needed a new challenge this year after finishing up running track in college, and wanted to do something that could also benefit others.
Parkinson's Disease has been a cause very close to my heart since my grandad suffered and passed away as a result of the disease, and my uncle currently battles with PD. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological disease which can effect cognitive behavior (dementia/mood etc.), movement, sleep, speech ... honestly the list is pretty endless, and it currently has no cure - so not only does the disease have a lifechanging impact on the idividual, but also their loved ones.
Therefore I decided to combine my love for all those who have been affected by PD in my family physically, or emotionally with my love of running and sign up for the Pittsburgh marathon on May 6th!! It is my first ever marathon - but knowing that I am running and raising money for such an amazing cause makes training just that little bit easier! I am now up to 15 miles as my longest run with just a couple of months to go.
I found this amazing charity in Pittsburgh that offers 23 monthly support groups to those suffering with PD and to their loved ones. They deliver cool programs like yoga, dancing, boxing, and care giver stress relief. I truly believe that keeping people moving and inspired makes their quality of life so much better - so I think this charity is AWESOME!!
Any donation is greatly appreciated, and the money is truly going to such an amazing charity that is striving to improve the lives of those living with, and affected by PD every day! If you want to learn more about the charity you can visit www.pfwpa.org.
FYI this site accepts all currencies - yay!
Thanks so much everyone!!
