Friends - Thanks for checking out our fundraising page.
Ten years ago (4/2/03), I underwent a pretty radical surgery as part of my fight against bone cancer. I decided to have a modified amputation called rotationplasty in order to totally remove the part of my leg that had a bone tumor, and to also have the greatest chance of resuming athletics in the future. It's been a long road toward improved mobility, but thankfully, each year I feel like the realm of what's "physically possible" seems to expand a bit more, largely thanks to the encouragement of my friends, inspiration of other challenged athletes, & the help of my top notch prosthetist.
SO this year, in celebration and gratitude for 10 years of life as a survivor, I am going to compete in my first triathlon.
If you would consider supporting me in any of the following 3 ways, I would be truly grateful:
1) Consider a donation to Mission Santa Maria - My goal is to raise $7,700 for Mission Santa Maria in the 3 months leading up to the tri. Mission Santa Maria is a charity I am very involved in that helps children in Ecuador receive education, food, health care and shelter. Many of these children come from abusive families and extreme poverty. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and donations are 100% tax deductible. You can learn more about the charity (started by my good friend & tri-coach Jim Campbell) and the direct impact your contribution has on children's lives on the Mission website here. You can donate directly on the Mission site or here on Crowdrise.
2) Join our Team for the race! - It's just a SPRINT triathlon. It's really not that big of a deal. Seriously. Just ask anyone. But it's going to be awesome, so if you can be in the NY/NJ area June 30th, register quickly since there is limited space. I will send you my handy "11 week training program for a sprint tri". The link to register is on the left side of this page. Just let me know if you register, then you can get one of these cool Crowdrise pages for yourself.
3) Cheer/heckle us and join us for the post-race BBQ - If you can come out and cheer for us, you will get rewarded with a quality post-race BBQ and pool party at Jim's nearby home. Again, give me a heads up via email or other means and I'll send you the details.
Thank you so much for your support!
