At The Perseus Foundation , our team of volunteers works every single day to improve cancer care and better the health of our pet companions through scientific discovery, education, indefatigable resolve and inspiration. We are committed to investing in cancer research to advance health in pet companions and pediatric oncology patients.
We seek to break the barriers of traditional cancer treatment. Through collaboration with colleagues and research scientists, we want to offer the most effective cancer treatments for canine and feline patients. In 2016, we were part of a collaboration between Fred Hutch, The Bob and Rebecca Pohlad Family Foundation, NIna and Darrell Hallet and Aurelius Biotherapeutics in developing T cell therapies and exploring their broad potential.
Currently we are raising capital for validating a blood test that is being developed for hemangiosarcoma and the parallel clinical therapeutic trials. We are collaborating with Ethos Discovery in this exciting endeavor.
Through our financial assistance programs, we provide help to pet owners who would otherwise not be able to afford treatment for cancer care. The Perseus Magic Fund provides assistance by helping to defray costs of Bone Marrow Transplantation, T Cell Adoptive Immunotherapy, clinical trials and Stereotactic RadioSurgery (SRS). The Teddy Bear Fund defrays the costs of cancer care in cats. The MiliDog Fund assists Retired Military and Contract Dogs, K-9 Police, Search and Rescue dogs with cancer and other life threatening conditions.
Our goal for 2020 is to continue to enhance our existing programs and beginning raising funds to establish the first hospitality house for dogs undergoing bone marrow transplantation in Bellingham, Washington. This facility will provide temporary lodging for families whose pets are receiving bone marrow transplants at Bellingham Veterinary. Allowing pets to stay with their owners in a homelike environment lessens anxiety for both the animals and their owners and helps to greatly speed recovery. This is a pilot project.
We need your help to build a world where our pet companions live longer and healthier lives without the threat of cancer. The Perseus Foundation is uniquely poised to make a difference in improving health outcomes for both humans and pets with cancer.
