BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation

EVENT DATE: May 17, 2016

Sigma Phi Epsilon Cal Alpha

Pedal For Life was born one decade ago when the brothers of the SigEp California Alpha chapter at UC Berkeley were seeking a way to continuously and meaningfully give back to the community. In doing this they began a tradition that has persisted since: a 500 mile philanthropic bike ride designed to raise awareness and funds for causes that impact our community and beyond, while challenging the riders’ physical and mental strength and bringing them closer throughout the ride. On May 17th, 2016, we will begin this adventure yet again at the iconic Sather Gate at UC Berkeley, and over the course of the proceeding five days bike 500 miles to the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, arriving certainly exhausted but fulfilled and amazed by the experience nonetheless. We invite you to follow us on our journey via social media, and greatly appreciate any and all donations, 100% of which will go straight to our charity this year, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) strives to achieve its mission of curing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are debilitating digestive diseases that affect 1 in 200 Americans. Collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) these chronic diseases have no known cure and are primarily diagnosed in children and young adults. CCFA offers educational and support programs to help people cope with these chronic intestinal diseases, and also funds basic and clinical research of the highest quality. Currently, CCFA's  Genetics Initiative is profoundly advancing the field of genetics and has identified the causes of IBD, a life-changing discovery that will lead us to better treatments —and ultimately cures — that will provide hope for the 1.6 million Americans impacted by these diseases.  This cause lies especially close to our hearts at Cal SigEp, as three of our fraternity members, including two who will embark on this trip, suffer from Crohn's disease. We ask for your support in raising funds and awareness to support our brothers as well as the many others who suffer from these diseases. Over the past two years, Pedal For Life has raised $10,000 for CCFA, and this year we hope to double that by raising an additional $10,000 and bringing our collective impact to $20,000 towards CCFA’s mission. Click the donate link to make a contribution today; your part is invaluable, and we are excited to carry ourselves 500 miles to earn your support. Thank you!
