One Common Unity Peace Ride 2018
EVENT DATE: Sep 29, 2018
PEDAL FOR PEACE: One Common Unity is Proud to Present the Third Annual Peace Ride
The Peace Ride is a day long community event hosted by One Common Unity (OCU), a Washington D.C. based non-profit whose mission is to break cycles of violence and build compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education.
The Peace Ride brings together members of the community who are committed to ending violence and building a better future. This is an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful cycling route, participate in yoga classes, plus wellness and interactive art workshops. In addition, there will be live music + poetry performances at Base Camp, led by OCU students and special guests.
The Peace Ride is a day of sun, fun, and connection - we can’t wait for you to join us!
Please join us to support OCU’s violence prevention programs in DC public schools - all proceeds from this FUNdriaser support OCU’s ongoing programming.
One Common Unity leads arts-driven violence prevention programs in 14 DC public schools. Our flagship youth development program, Fly By Light, immerses roughly 5000 DC middle and high school students each year in a transformative process centered upon social emotional learning, mindfulness, social justice education, nature immersion, and artistic expression.

The day's events will be centered at our Base Camp, overlooking the Lincoln Memorial (located on the corner of Constitution Ave and Henry Bacon Drive NW). The 19-mile cycling route leads bikers along the Potomac River, to Gravelly Point, through the Bon Air Memorial Rose Garden, and into the iconic Theodore Roosevelt Island. Along the way, cyclist can enjoy various rest stops, restaurants, and scenic outlooks. *For those who don’t wish to complete the 19-mile route, a shorter ride near the Potomac, and a walking "Peace Tour" on the mall are also available.
Once you complete your first 19 miles, you will have the opportunity to cycle the loop once more. Looking for a real challenge? Head back out for a third, fourth, fifth, or even sixth loop!
*This is not a competition - all riders are encouraged to do only as much as they feel comfortable with - we will all be cheering each other on to do our best! Once you have pushed yourself as far as you can, you will be able to return to Base Camp and participate in the rest of the Peace Ride programming.
The Peace Ride is family and pet-friendly, and is open to all.
