LET THEM, an nonprofit organization in Zimbabwe - focuses on nurturing artistic talent in the youth and creating arts sector career pathways for children when they leave school. In Zimbabwe, children with artistic talent are often forced to leave their art-based calling and focus solely on academia. For those who are at all not academically inclined, this poses an a problem when - after they finish school and they have neither an academic nor an artistic foundation to stand on. They are often then unemployed and have no ways of getting into the working sector. The notion that the Arts sector has no merit, and that no one can successfully build a well-paying career in it - stems from societal expectations from yesteryear's arts sector practitioners who had no sound arts management and personal management training or support. Our Parent-Child Workshops (pegged to start in January 2016) will be geared to: 1. Create a safe and conducive environment for artistic children to discuss their issues regarding career goals in the arts with their parents. 2. Give parents a chance to relay their concerns and worries for and to their child 3. Give parents a well-rounded image (based on facts from credible available data) on the arts sector in Zimbabwe and beyond its borders 4. Give teachers and parents a chance to figure out how they can work together to allow for both academic and artistic nurturing in their children. TARGETED OUTCOMES: 1. More participation in the arts sector by the youth 2. A better understanding of today's arts sector in parents and the public in general 3. More inclusion of arts activities in family's schedules 4. Better support by parents for their children who are artistically inclined
