Growing grapes instead of poppies... See more
Roots of Peace (RoP) currently has programs in Afghanistan, Croatia, and Angola and in the past also in Iraq and Cambodia. In Afghanistan we are demining and working with rural grape, nut, and pomegranate farmers, international produce traders, and students to re-establish a thriving agricultural sector in the decimated, war-torn countryside. RoP has programs with rural vintners in Croatia to demine and then rejuvenate or rebuild their vineyards so that they can again provide for their families with the produce from their farms. In Angola we are clearing landmines from critical access corridors used by elephants to migrate between ranges in northern Botswana and prime wildlife regions in Angola and Zambia. After the land has been cleared of landmines, an eco-tourism program is being developed through a partnership with Conservation International.
