¡Hola Amigos! I am a bilingual educator, and teaching is my art, passion, and activism. I teach in a two-way immersion classroom where students learn Spanish through the exploration of Language Arts and Social Studies. Our students are full of life and love of learning. They are eager to grow physically, intellectually and personally. In our classroom we believe that what we focus on gets bigger, and we choose to focus on peace: peace with ourselves, each other, and the environment.
As part of our peace curriculum, we are planning a trip to Puerto Rico. The goals of this trip include promoting global awareness, cultural sensitivity, Spanish language acquistion, environmental sustainability, and social justice. In Puerto Rico, we will visit the University of Puerto Rico, explore a National Forest (El Yunque), speak Spanish in authentic settings, zipline through the jungle, engage in service learning at a foster home, learn salsa dances from local professionals, and investigate sustainable agricultrue at an organic coffee farm. The trip is going to be amazing!
We need your help to make this life-changing learning experience a reality. Although our students are culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically diverse, nearly 2/3 of our kids live near or below the poverty line. Trips like these are often only available to the kids who can afford them. Our plan is to take ALL 36 students to Puerto Rico. We can't imagine leaving anyone behind. Please help us give all of our kids equal access to travel and exploration. Working together, we can make this happen. Many, many thanks! ¡Adelante! y ¡Gracias!
