Edward Garnett wrote -The United States is a nation of immigrants and has historically welcomed refugees fleeing war and persecution. The executive order signed by President Donald Trump on January 27, deceptively titled "Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States," will suspend the entire refugee resettlement program for 120 days and bar refugees fleeing the war in Syria from entry to the U.S. indefinitely. The order also bars entry into the United States for 90 days from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Those countries are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) resettled 400,000 refugees in the U.S. since World War II and is calling for an “urgent rethink,” warning that the order will increase the suffering of some of the world's most vulnerable people while doing nothing for American security. Let's show the world that President Trump does not reflect American values. Let's pool our resources to raise money for the IRC to assist refugees around the world, especially those who are harmed by President Trump's action.
