There is nothing more fulfilling and exhilarating than the moment you send your child to school and out into the world to become his or her own person. Yet, there is nothing more frightening and paralyzing than the deep-set fear that rushes through you ten seconds later when you realize you have a child growing up in a world with more dangers, pitfalls, and challenges than ever before. In this challenging adolescent world of unpredictable scenarios and few guidelines to follow, where does a parent turn for trustworthy guidance and resources? Thankfully, you have Operation Parent.

We are a parent-driven organization that provides comprehensive prevention education and support resources for parents, caregivers, and organizations responsible for raising and guiding teens and preteens. We understand what it’s like for parents who struggle with walking the everyday tightrope of “What’s the right thing to do?” We get it, and we can help.

Operation Parent started when we, as parents, needed help and couldn’t find one central source for practical information on the tough day-to-day issues. From that, our organization was born. A platform sourced with the “must know” material for anyone raising preteens and teens today, curated from our own experiences as parents and leading experts in their respective fields. Our goal is to provide parenting resources to raise awareness, and to engage parents and their children in thoughtful, open and productive communication on today’s toughest parenting issues.

And because Operation Parent is made up of parents who have gone through and are often going through the same challenges you face, you can feel comfortable that we’re the right resource for you. We want all our parents to know they are not alone on this journey, but rather part of a community of parents, caregivers and others who understand the ups and downs inherent with parenting.

Unlike the “reactive", clinical methodology the institutional world brings to addressing a child’s development or issue resolution, Operation Parent works to be “proactive” and keep issues from ever happening. Even if they do, we intend to talk with you – not at you – to help find the best resolution for you and your child. Because we are parents. Clinicians, counselors, and experts can help, but ultimately no one knows or loves our children more than we do. We are called to protect and must therefore step boldly into our God-given role. It is our values, our real-world experience and our courage that will ultimately make the difference in the lives of our children and generations to come.

Operation Parent has partnered with schools in the Jefferson County Public School district (the largest district in the state of KY with over 100,000+ students and where 80% of children in Louisville/Jefferson County attend school) for over 10 years now. Rather than approach each school on an individual basis, we are taking a more methodical approach to prevention education by incorporating it with school registration. We are seeking funding for the parent of every 4th grade student in Jefferson County to receive The Parent Handbook - Elementary Edition (click to view sample pages) free of charge and access to view 5 videos throughout the school year on a variety of topics to educate them and engage parent and child alike in proactive, productive communication on today's toughest teen and preteen issues ultimately resulting in better choices for tomorrow.
