THE STORY:
I am running the 2014 Boston Marathon to help make a difference in the lives of children living in poverty in the Kansas City area. Operation Breakthrough provides HOPE and CHANGE for our most at-risk kids in the area.
As the largest single-site early education child care and social services facility in the state of Missouri, Operation Breakthrough serves over 400 children daily from the urban core. Roughly 25 percent of Operation Breakthrough's children are homeless, with another 25 percent living in foster care due to abuse or neglect.
The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to help these children develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment.
Operation Breakthrough also strives to support and empower the children's families through advocacy, referral services, and emergency aid.
I've witnessed the impact preschool had on my own children-- how it has helped them develop curiosity, become problem solvers, hone social skills and learn community values. We are able to offer this wonderful gift to families who desire the best for their own children but need our help to make it happen.
In the honor of those who lost their lives in the Boston bombing last spring, will you help me support this cause?
Online donations are great, but if you prefer to send a check, please make it out to Operation Breakthrough and mail it to me: 804 W. 62nd Street, Kansas City, MO 64113. I will be sure to get you a receipt.
THANK YOU for generosity, and let me know if I can answer any questions about this life-changing organization.
