It was on a trip to Haiti in 2008 that I first met Father Rick Frechette, an American doctor and community organizer who had been working in the slums of Port-au-Prince for over two decades. He and his Haitian team run the St. Luke Foundation, and have built orphanages, medical clinics, a network of over 25 primary schools, and a pediatric hospital that is the only free hospital serving the children of one of the largest slums in the Western Hemisphere – they change lives. They have done all this with little support, a lot of imagination, and a lot of heart. Father Rick and his team have succeeded where many bigger and better-funded organizations have failed. The key to their success lies largely in empowering the people of the communities they serve.
Father Rick and his team inspired us to found Artists for Peace and Justice, an extraordinary ever-growing band of talented and committed friends who are all dedicated to long-term investments and meaningful results. Our programs in education, healthcare, and dignity are providing hope and opportunity to thousands every year.
Our belief is simple: the future of Haiti will be bright. On behalf of the Board of Artists for Peace and Justice, thank you for your support. It is because of you that we are able to make a difference in the lives of the people of Haiti -- so please give generously to this campaign and help us win the $50,000 prize. Trust me when I tell you that your money will be put to good use.
