To celebrate my 60th birthday, I signed up a year ago to do IRONMAN Florida taking palce in Panama City Beach, Florida on November 7, 2020.
For the record, it's been 11 years since I've done a triathlon. For those not familiar with IRONMAN, it starts with a 2.4 mile open water swin, followed by 112 miles on the bike and ends with a 26.2 full marathon.
To be honest, I'm in denial about my age and still of the belief, that if you stick your mind to something, anything is possible. So what are the odds of someone who is 'over the hill' to be able to complete the 140.6 mile distance? The simple answer is if you don't try, you'll never know.
To make all the time training and doing the IRONMAN event more meaningful, I'm raising funds for:
1) the Special Fathers Network, a dad to dad mentoring program for fathers raising children with special needs, and
2) Ainsley's Angels, a Virgina Beach, VA charity co-founded by my friend Rooster Rossiter in the name of his daughter Ainlsey, who sadly passed away in 2016 at age 12. AA secures racing chairs that provide the Angel Athletes with an opportunity to participate in running events of various distances. I've done two AA events, pushing Emily Cosgrove in the Napa Marathon and Jackson Heckert in the Louisiana 1/2 Marathon.
