The Detroit Zoological Society set a Giving Zoo Day goal of $40,000 toward the construction of a new tiger experience at the Detroit Zoo. Thanks to you, we exceeded our goal! The first $20,000 was matched by a generous couple.
Because of you, we are closer to making the Devereaux Tiger Forest a reality - a larger and more engaging tiger habitat at the Detroit Zoo and a thrilling experience for visitors.
It’s not too late to support the Devereaux Tiger Forest. When you contribute between now and January 3, you can help us win a share of $500,000 in prizes from the Newman’s Own Foundation Holiday Challenge. Our new end-of-the-year goal is $65,000.
The Devereaux Tiger Forest will be triple the space of the current tiger habitat, with naturalistic and engaging elements throughout that will ensure the well-being of the animals and create an exciting opportunity for visitors to be up close and amazed by these majestic creatures. Viewing opportunities for guests will also be expanded and improved, including the addition of an 85-foot-long acrylic window, allowing visitors to come nose-to-nose with these magnificent animals.
New and enhanced features will include:
• elevated vantage points for visual and olfactory (scent) stimulation
• open spaces
• a waterfall and pool
• a cave for relaxing in the shade
The initial $1 million commitment from the Richard C. Devereaux Foundation will allow work to begin this year on the dramatic renovation and expansion. To fully fund the project, additional contributions are still needed and are greatly appreciated.
When you donate to the Detroit Zoological Society, you are supporting a world-class habitat for tigers, while providing an exceptional learning opportunity and Zoo experience for visitors of all ages.
