The Egyptian government claims that human rights and religious freedom are protected in Egypt. But the homogeneity of Egyptian civil society and near-daily attacks on the indigenous Copts and other minority groups proves otherwise. Please support Coptic Solidarity’s new project to build a database so we can track incidents against Coptic Christians, whose heritage is over 2,000 years old in Egypt.
Our explicit goal in this campaign is to build a database to educate members of Congress and policy makers about the extent of the plight of the Copts. We aim to bring accountability to the Egyptian government which has recently launched a public relations campaign and spent millions of dollars lobbying the US government to maintain funding despite systemic failures to uphold basic human rights. Our new database may also be used as a resource for governments, legislators, policymakers, churches, and individuals.
With your support, Coptic Solidarity will be able to:
1) Fund investigations necessary to chronologically extend the list to bring older incidents to light and to simultaneously add current events.
2) Fund the design and creation of a user-friendly database to impactfully inform the public and the US government about the extent of human rights violations against the Copts.
3) Fund research to understand the type and extent of incidents against Copts, and what action, if any, has been taken to provide justice.
4) Continue to advocate and lobby on behalf of Coptic equality with the US Congress and other governments.
Thanks for your support and please be sure to share this campaign with your family and friends. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated!
