Zoning Reform to Encourage Redevelopment

Join municipal staff and officials from around the region for a free, in-depth training on strategic re-zoning and the use of form-based code to promote housing creation without negatively impacting our environment or community character. Representatives from the Cape Cod Commission and Union Studios will present local case studies and George Proakis, Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) for the City of Somerville and member of the Form-Based Codes Institute steering committee, will speak to why more small communities are adopting a form-based codes approach.

- The process for developing and implementing a form-based code and different methods of community engagement, visual preference, and form-based code writing

- Process for engaging community members and a spectrum of municipal staff and officials in approving gradual introduction of rezoning and form-based code in your town

- Benefits and outcomes you can expect from a successful initiative – more housing with less controversy and delay

- Sources of funding and technical assistance for these initiatives
