Zone 126 is celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary! In honor of this exciting milestone, we are asking for you to pledge your support for the children, families and school communities that are the backbone of our community. Over the past ten years, we have worked to drive community transformation for children and families living in Astoria and Long Island City’s concentrated pockets of poverty in zip codes 11101, 11102, and 11106. Many think of this area of Queens as economically booming and a hotbed for new businesses and real estate development, but more than 20,000 families and 8,000 children are currently living in poverty.
Poverty causes children to face multiple environmental, social, and physical barriers to success. That’s why Zone 126 sprang into action back in 2011 - to ensure that children living in these zip codes do not fall behind their peers and can receive the educational and development supports needed to graduate from high school prepared to thrive in the 21st Century. Our proven cradle-to-college model offers services ranging from early childhood in-home literacy, chronic absenteeism reduction and social emotional transition support to yoga/mindfulness, mentoring, college prep, mental health support, food pantry services and more. With your help, we can count on another ten years of empowering students to reach their full potential and building a more just and equitable community!
